Lisa would be happy to think that readers might find comfort in her work; that they might feel more hopeful and connected to the beauty of the natural world, more connected to other people, and more receptive to the mystery of the divine in all that they encounter.
Lisa received her Master of Arts in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Queens University. She has written for newspapers and magazines and worked in public relations for corporations and educational institutions. Her creative writing has appeared in journals including Snapdragon, Moonshine Review, Corradi, Main Street Rag, and several anthologies. She loves teaching beginning writers in small workshops.
Lisa’s first full-length book of poetry is The Bone Picker. The collection follows the life of a woman from childhood, through the ups and downs of marriage and motherhood, the recalibration of empty nesting and a lot of stuff in between! Though the narrative arc begins in darkness and confusion, there is an unburdening as the story resolves on a note of hope and reconciliation.
Lisa hopes that her poetry might be a touchstone for others who want to explore the joys and challenges of being human through their own creative writing. Poetry can be an anchor in challenging times, and Lisa enjoys helping readers to engage with the work of great poets, from antiquity to today. Lisa wants readers to be excited about poetry! She believes that learning to write poetry and connecting with others who share her passion has been her salvation; now she wants to pass it on.
